百喻經經典故事閱讀

  百喻經經典故事:老母捉熊喻

  昔有一老母,在樹下臥。熊欲來搏,爾時老母,繞樹走避,熊尋後逐,一手抱樹,欲捉老母。老母得急,即時合樹,捺熊兩手,熊不得動。更有異人來至其所,老母語言:“汝共我捉,殺分其肉。”

  Once upon a time, there was an old woman who was resting under a tree when a bear came to attack her. She ran around the tree trying to get away, while the bear held the tree with one hand and tried to grasp her with the other. Thus hard pressed, the woman quickly hugged the tree and held fast the bear's two claws so that the bear could not move. Then a stranger came up to the spot. The old woman called out, "Let's catch and kill the bear together. We'll share its meat."

  時彼人者,信老母語,即時共捉。既捉之已,老母即便舍熊而走。其人後為熊所困。如是愚人,為世所笑。

  The stranger believed the old woman's words and began to help capture the bear. After seizing it, the old woman gave it up and ran away. Then he was leaving in the lurch and got injured by its claws. As a result, he was sardonically laughed at.

  凡夫之人,亦復如是。作諸異論,既不善好,文辭繁重,多有諸病,竟不成迄,便舍終亡,後人捉之,欲為解釋,不達其意,反為其困。如彼愚人,代他捉熊,反自被害。

  This is also held to be true with the common people. People progress heresy whose theories are far from good and whose phrases are tangled, complicated and full of errors. The successors want to continue and give an interpretation to them. However, they are unable to grasp the meaning. There for they are enmeshed in trouble just like that stupid man catching the bear for another person and getting hurt instead.

  白話:

  曾有一位老婦在樹下臥息,一頭熊想來抓搏她。這時老婦繞樹逃避,熊隨即在後面追逐,並且一手抱住樹,另一手去捉老婦。老婦急了,趕忙緣樹撳住那隻伸過來的手,與原先抱著的那隻一道都按捺在樹上,熊就這樣合抱著樹,動彈不了。又有另外一個人來到這兒,老婦說道:「你幫我一道捉住它,殺了,肉大家平分。」那人信了老婦的話,就上來幫著捉住。待捉定了,老婦即刻舍熊而走,那人後來就被熊困住了。這樣的愚人,遭到世人的嗤笑。

  凡夫之人也是這樣,作了一些不合正理的論說,並不完善周密,文辭也繁冗重贅,有著諸多毛病,還沒寫完殺青,便舍下死去了。後人閱讀了,想替它作解釋,卻無法明達它的意旨,反而被這論說困住了,就如那個愚人代別人捉熊,自己反被殃害一樣。

  百喻經經典故事:摩尼水竇喻

  昔有一人,與他婦通,交通未竟,夫從外來,即便覺之。住於門外,伺其出時,便欲殺害。婦語人言,“我夫已覺,更無出處,唯有摩尼,可以得出。”胡以水竇名為“摩尼”,欲令其人,從水竇出。

  Once upon a time, there was a man who was having an affair with a married woman. They were together when her husband came back. He found out their affair and stopped outside the door waiting for the man to come out to kill him. To the lover the woman said: "My husband knows what is going on. There is no way out but the mani." She wanted the man to escape by means of the sewer.

  其人錯解,謂摩尼珠,所在求覓,而不知處。即作是言:“不見摩尼珠,我終不去。”須臾之間,為其所害。

  The man misunderstood her to mean looking for the mani pearls. He looked everywhere but in vain. He said to himself: "I'll not leave here, if can't find the mani pearls." He was then killed by her husband.

  凡夫之人,亦復如是。有人語言:“生死之中,無常、苦、空、無我,離斷、常二邊,處於中道,於此中過,可得解脫。”凡夫錯解,便求世界有邊、無邊,及眾生有我、無我,竟不能觀中道之理,忽然命終,為於無常之所殺害,墮三惡道。如彼愚人,推求摩尼,為他所害。

  白話:

  曾有一人,與他人妻子私通。奸事未畢,丈夫從外面回來,隨即察覺了,便停在門外,準備候他出來之際,一下殺了他。婦人便對他說:「我丈夫已察覺了,再沒有別的出處好走,只有摩尼才可以出得去。」這是叫他從水洞中鑽出去。這人誤解為摩尼珠,就到處尋覓,卻毫無蹤影。就說:「找不到摩尼珠,我終究無法離去的。」不一會兒,就被那丈夫殺了。

  凡夫之人也是這樣,有人說:「生死輪迴之中,沒有永恆的實體存在。身心遭受煩惱的纏縛,一切事物都依賴於因緣而存在,自身並沒有本質的恆常性,因而人也沒有起著主宰作用的自我或靈魂。也就是說,無常是苦,而苦是空、無我的,所以應離棄絕對斷滅不續、絕對永恆不變這兩種片面性,處於不斷不常的中道。在這中道中,就能得到解脫,不受生死的纏縛。」凡夫誤解了這話,便推求世界有邊際還是無邊際,眾生有我還是無我,始終不能繫念思察中道之理,忽然命終了,遭了無常的殺害,墮於三惡道中,就像那個愚人,四處推求摩尼珠,被他人殺害一樣。
