其實很簡單，那就是我們不斷地向外國人提問，然後從外國人的答覆中尋找兩人的共同點，一旦找到兩人的共同點，即可進行深入的交談。比如下面這段對話，背景是兩個不認識的人***Tom和Joe***在一個社交聚會上見面。Tom問：您做什麼工作啊?Joe答：我是賣保險的。由於每個人都可能買保險，這很可能是一個突破口，於是Tom緊接著問：您賣哪種保險啊?Joe答：我賣亞得里亞海油井的保險。這個險種實在太冷門了，但Tom並不氣餒，繼續提問，最後終於找到兩人的共同點：原來兩人的籍貫都是內布拉斯加州，於是Tom從這個突破口切入，與Joe開始了深入的交談。
