　　勵志英語故事：女人為什麼撒謊

　　If you think your woman would never lie to you, guess again. From little white lies to the more serious variety, most women will curtail the truth at some point in a relationship. Her motivation for lying can stem from wanting to protect your feelings or, sure enough, to save her own butt.

　　One day, when a seamstress was sewing while sitting close to a river, her thimble fell into the river. When she cried out, the Lord appeared and asked, 'My dear child, why are you crying?' The seamstress replied that her thimble had fallen into the water and that she needed it to help her husband in making a living for their family. The Lord dipped His hand into the water and pulled up a golden thimble set with sapphires.

　　'Is this your thimble?' the Lord asked The seamstress replied, 'No.'

　　The Lord again dipped into the river. He held out a golden thimble studded with rubies.

　　'Is this your thimble?' the Lord asked. Again, the seamstress replied, 'No.'

　　The Lord reached down again and came up with a leather thimble.

　　'Is this your thimble ?' the Lord asked. The seamstress replied, 'Yes.' The Lord was pleased with the woman's honesty and gave her all three thimbles to keep, and the seamstress went home happy.

　　Some years later, the seamstress was walking with her husband along the riverbank, and her husband fell into the river and disappeared under the water. When she cried out, the Lord again appeared and asked her, 'Why are you crying?' 'Oh Lord, my husband has fallen into the river!'

　　The Lord went down into the water and came up with George Clooney. 'Is this your husband?' the Lord asked.

　　'Yes,' cried the seamstress. The Lord was furious. 'You lied! That is an untruth!' The seamstress replied, 'Oh, forgive me, my Lord. It is a misunderstanding. You see, if I had said 'no' to George Clooney, you would have come up with Brad Pitt.

　　Then if I said 'no' to him, you would have come up with my husband. Had I then said 'yes,' you would have given me all three. Lord, I'm not in the best of health and would not be able to take care of all three husbands, so THAT' S why I said 'yes' to George Clooney.

　　And so the Lord let her keep him.

　　The moral of this story is:

　　Whenever a woman lies, it's for a good and honorable reason, and in the best interest of others. That's our story, and we're sticking to it.

　　“這是你的頂針嗎?”上帝問道。女裁縫回答：“是的。”上帝很為女人的誠實高興，就把三個頂針都給了她，女裁縫高高興興地回了家。

　　幾年以後，女裁縫和丈夫沿著河岸走著，突然她的丈夫掉進了河裡，消失在水下。女裁縫大哭的時候，上帝又出現了，問她：“你為什麼哭啊?”“主啊，我的丈夫掉進河裡了!”

　　上帝到了河裡，把喬治·克魯尼救了上來。“這是你的丈夫嗎?”上帝問道。

　　“是的，”女裁縫喊道。上帝大怒。“你撒謊!那不是真話!”女裁縫回答道，“噢，我的主，請寬恕我。這是一個誤會。你瞧，如果我對喬治說：‘不’，你會再救上來一個布萊德·皮特。

　　那麼如果我對他說‘不’，你又會把我丈夫救上來。如果我說‘是的’，你會把他們三個都給我。主啊，我身體不太好，不能把三個丈夫都照顧好啊，所以我就對喬治-克魯尼說‘是’了。”

　　而上帝因此就讓女裁縫留著喬治做丈夫了。

　　這個故事的寓意是：

　　This is a story from the book Strange Tales from Make-Do Studio. There was an old man with the surname Feng， he had a son named Xiangru. Xiangru studied hard but failed several times in passing the imperial examination. One night when Xiangruwas reading books in the courtyard， he was surprised to see a beautiful girl on the wall looking at him affectionately. Xiangru invited her to come down from the wall and knew that her name was Hong Yu.From then on ，Hong Yu came to meet Xiangru every night and soon they fell in love. One night， Feng happened to run into Hong Yu at the door of Xiangru's room. Feng scolded Xiangru severely. Hong Yu slipped away and she never came there again. Later， Xiangru got married. His wife was called Wei and they had a boy named Lucky. Untortunately， the bully in the village， Song， was moved by Wei's good looks and snatched her away. Feng was so indignant that finally he died. Another day， a brave man rushed into Xiangru's room and said，"Have you forgotten that your father has died and your wife was snatched away by Song?" Xiangru hurriedly told the man that he wanted revenge but had no way to achieve it. Then， Song was beheaded that same night. The county government suspected Xiangru and detained him. The evening that Xiangru was arrested， no sooner the governmental official lied down than he saw a knife stabbed on the head of the bed. One day at his home， Xiangru heard his child talking to somebody outside the door. He opened the door and was surprised and glad to see Hong Yu standing there with Lucky. Hong Yu smiled and said， "I am not a common girl， but a fox spirit. I know that you have been in trouble;I am secretly protecting you." Since then， Hong Yu stayed with Xiangru to manage the family affairs and teach the child.

　　勵志英語故事：邂逅封三娘

　　Lady Fan was gentle and beautiful. One day, accompanied by an attendant on an outing to the Water and Moon Monastery, she encountered the warm and equally beautiful Lady Feng. As they found an affinity between each other, on deqarting Lady Fan invited Lady Feng to visit her home some day. Back home Lady Fan missed her newly made friend terribly and soon fell ill. On the ninth day of the ninth nonth of the lunar calendar, the Double Ninth Festival, Lady Fan and her attendant came to the family garden to enjoy flowers. There she saw Lady Feng looking at her from outside the garden wall. Overjoyed, Lady Fan met Meng Anren, a young, handsome and talented scholar from a impoverished family. Helped by Lady Feng, Lady Fan and the young scholar entered betrothal. Unfortunately, a rich local bully also had his eyes on Lady Fan and forced a marriage proposal on Lady Fan's parents, who saw no choice but to accept. The day before the wedding, Lady Fan hanged herself in her room. The heartbroken young scholar, on hearing the news, rushed to her tomb and wailed uncontuollably. Suddenly, he heard Lady Feng's voice from behind, "If you dig up the tomb, I can bring her back to life." He did as she said, and carried the dead Lady Fan back to his place. Whth Lady Feng's magic medicine Lady Fan indeed came to life and the two lovers married. Before Lady Feng left, she disclosed her real identity——a fox fairy.

　　範十一娘，心地善良，有傾國傾城之貌。一日在丫環的陪同下去水月寺遊玩，遇上美麗熱情的封三娘，二人見面都很喜歡對方。分別時，十一娘約封三娘去她家玩。十一娘回家後，日夜想念相信封三娘，日久天長，鬱郁成疾。重陽節這天，丫環扶十一娘在花園賞花，忽見封三娘正攀牆向園內張望，於是被請進園來，並住下。十一孃的病就此好了。

　　來年春天，她倆結伴郊遊。十一娘碰見年輕英俊的貧寒秀才孟安仁，在封三娘幫助下，訂了婚約，有一顯貴相中十一娘，十一娘父母懼怕權勢，同意了這門親事。就在迎親前一天，十一娘自縊。孟安仁聽到噩耗，萬分悲痛，夜晚到十一娘墳上大哭。忽聽三娘在背後說：“你快挖開墳，我有辦法。”孟安仁挖開墳將十一娘揹回家中。經封三娘調藥相救，十一娘甦醒了，二人遂成婚，封三娘辭別時說出自己是狐仙。
