A Charcoal-burner carried on his trade in his own house. One day he met a friend, afuller***漂洗工*** , and entreated***懇求,請求*** him to come and live with him, saying that they should be far better neighbors and that their housekeeping expenses would belessened. The Fuller replied, "The arrangement is impossible as far as I am concerned, for whatever I should whiten, you would immediately blacken again with your charcoal***木炭*** ."

  這故事說明,不同類的人難相處。

  :The Father and His Sons

         父親與爭吵的兒子們

A father had a family of sons who were perpetually***永恆地*** quarreling among themselves. When he failed to heal their disputes by his exhortations***訓詞,勸告*** , he determined to give them a practical illustration of the evils of disunion***分裂*** ; and for this purpose he one day told them to bring him a bundle of sticks. When they had done so, he placed the faggot***柴捆*** into the hands of each of them in succession, and ordered them to break it in pieces. They tried with all their strength, and were not able to do it. He next opened the faggot, took the sticks separately, one by one, and again put them into his sons' hands, upon which they broke them easily. He then addressed them in these words: "My sons, if you are of one mind, and unite to assist each other, you will be as this faggot, uninjured by all the attempts of your enemies; but if you are divided among yourselves, you will be broken as easily as these sticks."

A tiger caught a fox in a forest, and was just about to eat it, when the fox said, 'You mustn't eat me. I was sent by Heaven to rule the animals. By eating me, you will violate***違反,侵犯*** the command of Heaven. If you don't believe me, just follow me to see whether the animals are of me.' The tiger agreed, and followed the fox as it walked around the forest. The animals all ran away on seeing them. The tiger thought they were of the fox, so he let it go. He didn't realise that it was him that the beasts were really of.

This idiom means relying on another's power to bully***欺負*** or frighten others.

  :Big Boss Man

When the body was first made, all the parts wanted to be Boss.

The brain said, "I should be boss because I control the whole body's responses and functions."

The feet said, "We should be Boss as we carry the brain about and get him to where he wants to go."

The hands said, "We should be the Boss because we do all the work and earn all the money."

And so it went on and on with the heart, the lungs, and the eyes until finally the assholespoke up. All the parts laughed at the idea of the asshole being the Boss. So the asshole went on strike, blocked itself up and refused to work.

Within a short time the eyes became crossed, the hands clenched***緊握的*** , the feettwitched***抽搐*** , the heart and lungs began to panic and the brain fevered. Eventually they all decided that the asshole should be the Boss, so the motion was passed. All the other parts did all the work while the boss just sat and passed out the shit!

Moral of the story: You don't need brains to be a boss--any asshole will do.

  :Daughter-in-law and daughter

Two women were chating in a room,

One asked, "How is everthing going with your son?"

"Oh,don't even mention it, what a huge misfortune!!" The woman sighed:

"He is poor enough, and marry a extraordinary lazy daughter-in-law. She doesn’t cook, not clean the room, not look after the children except sleep all the time. It was my son who bring breakfast to her bed.

  "How about your dauther?"

"She might be lucky." Woman smiled, "He married a good husband who doesn’t allow him to do the housework, and handle everything all alone. The housework include cooking, washing, cleaning and looking after the children. What’s more, he brought the breakfast to my daughter everyday.

Consider the same situation, but when we look at it from my perspective, it will have a different mentality***心態,智力*** . Stand to look at other people's position, or at each other's point of view to think about a lot of things, you can have a greater tolerance and more love.
