英國作家，創造了受歡迎及讚賞的哈利波特系列。預計出版七集的哈利波特系列第一集，《哈利波特與哲人之石》（Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone，美國書名為《哈利波特與神祕魔法石》〔Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone〕），出版於1997年。透過栩栩如生的描述及富想像力的情節，一個孤獨的孤兒發現自己擁有魔法並進入霍格華茲魔法學校（Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry）學習巫術，成為一個不凡的哈利波特英雄。這本書甫推出即成功，同時吸引了兒童（最初設定的讀者）及成人。續集《哈利波特和消失的密室》（Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets,1998）、《哈利波特和阿茲卡班的逃犯》（Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaba,1999）以及《哈利波特和火盃的考驗》（Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire,2000），都成為暢銷書籍，根據第一集改編成的電影於2001年上映。羅琳因有功於重新引燃兒童閱讀的興趣，而於2001年成為英國皇家會員一員。

(born 1965) British author,creator of the popular and critically acclaimed Harry Potter series. The first book in the proposed seven-volume series,[book]Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (U.S. title [book]Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone),was published in 1997. Featuring vivid descriptions and an imaginative story line,it followed the unlikely hero Harry Potter,a lonely orphan who discovers that he is actually a wizard and enrolls in the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. The book was an immediate success,appealing to both children (its intended audience) and adults. Succeeding volumes－[book]Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (1998),[book]Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (1999),and [book]Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2000)－were also best-sellers,and a film based on the first book was released in 2001. Rowling was credited with renewing children's interest in reading,and in 2001 she was appointed OBE (Officer of the British Empire).
