  篇1

The two irony pictures reflect a common and serious problem in China - blind worship of idols among young people. In the left hand picture, a man has had David Beckham's name written on his face. In the right hand picture, a man who is having a haircut asks his barber to cut his hair on the model of David Beckham, the popular British soccer star. But unfortunately these young people never put their energy on right things. If they go on "daydreaming worship" like this, they will be doomed to failure in the end.

Chinese young people now take stars as their idols. Most of them are fans of certain basketball players, football players, singers, actors and actresses at home and abroad. They watch the matches, TV programs and movies starring their idols, but also pay a large sum of money to gain access to all kinds of live shows, concerts

and so on, Moreover, they imitate their idols in almost every aspect of their lives, such as their hair styles, tags and clothes.

Like daydreaming, to admire and worship idols, is not a mistake but sometimes a good beginning, I believe. However, if people adore the pop stars to the extent of losing self-control, they misunderstand the significance of popular culture. Young people should learn how to live their own lives instead of blindly following others' footsteps.

The cartoon vividly presents a picture how three sons and a daughter treat their old, helpless father. They each stand in a different comer of a football field. The eldest son kicks out the father, who huddles up like a ball. The other children are prepared to ward him off. Cruelly, none of them is willing to receive their father. The picture is thought -provoking, and what it illustrates is a common phenomenon in today's society: many grown -up children refuse to support their aging parents. While they enjoy a comfortable life, their parents are neglected and reduced to utter poverty, as these elderly people have grown so physically weak that they no longer have the means to support themselves. I think these children have betrayed their

own conscience and therefore may subject them selves to social contempt and criticism.

According to Chinese culture, to be kind to one's parents is the height of virtue. We owe so much to our patents in that they not only gave us life but have done much in brining us up. It is against nature for us to shirk the responsibility of taking care of our parents when they are old. Rather, we have the duty to pay back their love by making their later years enjoyable and happy.

  Keeping Going

The drawing vividly describes a runner who is arriving at the finishing line which is also the point he has started from. In the drawing, the runner is as if just running around the track of a play ground. On both side of the runner, there are two poles and a line between them. On the ground them are two signs which say "END ING" and "STARTING".

Obviously, the painter wants to tell us that, just like running, whatever we are doing, we should never stop making progress, The ending point just means a new starting point at which we should set new goals and continue to pursue them. This view is absolutely right in every sense. Firstly, it applies to individuals as in such a competitive world everybody is trying to get ahead. Secondly, corporations and organizations of any kind should also embrace this view, for they act as an independent person in the market and should al ways look ahead for new openings and possibilities to enhance business. Thirdly, the country on the whole should move forward in terms of politics, economy, and culture so that we Chinese as a nation can gain sustained respect from other peoples.

Examples to prove the view are abundant. The most persuasive are the cases of famous scholars like Qian Zhongshu and Ji Xianlin, whose success is gained through non -stop efforts. It goes without saying if they had been content with being just

a regional or national champion and stopped practicing, they wouldn' t have

accomplished so much and become world -famous. By contrast, a lot of people choose to take a rest to enjoy their small success and thus lose the motivation for further achievement. Similarly, plenty of companies are merged by bigger and more powerful ones just because they are overjoyed with their small profits and unaware of the danger posed by more ambitious rivals. In sum, keeping going should be the right attitude towards life and work for everybody and even for a country.
