College Entrance Examination is one of the most important matters for Chinese people. We can nearly say that no other things can cause such attention in the whole society. Some people support it while others are strongly against. The following advantages and disadvantages are their reasons.

The supporters say that College Entrance Examination is fair to select of talents. Because everyone is equal before the marks and that makes the College Entrance Examination fair. Besides, the preparation for the university entrance exam process hones the adolescents' will and endurance which has meaningful influence on future development. Moreover, by the examination, the level of education can be improved to a certain degree. Last, it's a good chance for rural students to change their economic status.

However, the arguers say that the disadvantages can not be ignor. Firstly, different regions have different admissions policies which results in the areas of discrimination. There is more fierce competition in the densely populated provinces. Secondly, scores and diplomas do not equal ability, and college entrance decided by too much emphasis on scores may lead to high scores but poor ability. Finally, a college diploma is increasingly worthless. More and more universities are established to accept more college students compared with the past, and so more and more students are graduating from the universities every year. However, with the financial crisis, many companies began layoffs, thus causing fewer and fewer jobs to be available.

The two sides all have reasons to support their ideas. As far as I am concerned, the examination cann't be changed in short time, so that all we can do is accept it and figure out how to do can make it turn to a better direction.

The College Entrance Examination, or commonly known as Gaokao, is an academic examination held annually in the mainland of our country. This examination is a prerequisite for entrance into almost all higher education institutions at the undergraduate level. It is usually taken by students in their last year of senior school, although there have been no age restrictions since 2001.

College Entrance Examination is one of the biggest events in China, because it may change millions of students and families' lives. The number of participants reached its peak to 10.5 millions in 2008 and this year, the numbers drop to 9.15 millions. Study abroad and employment pressure are the two main reasons of the decrease. In China, there are hot discussions about this exam. People think that it's unfair to determine one's faith just by an exam, while others think that under the current circumstance, there are no other better ways. After year after year's try, some universities and colleges find more ways to recruit, and independent recruitment is the most popular. However, no matter how it will change in the future, workinghard is the key to get success in study.

The greatest results in life are usually attained by simple means, and the exercise of ordinary qualities. The common life of every day, affords ample opportunities for acquiring experience of the best kind.

Fortune has often been blamed for her blindness. Those who look into practical life will find that fortune is usually on the side of the industrious, as the winds and waves are on the side of the best navigators. In the pursuit of even the highest branches of human inquiry, the commoner qualities are found the most useful, such as common sense, attention, application, and perseverance.

Genius may not be necessary, though even genius of the highest sort does not disdain the use of these ordinary qualities. The very greatest men have been among the least believers in the power of genius, and as worldly wise and persevering as successful men of the commoner sort. Some have even defined genius to be only common sense intensified. A distinguished teacher and president of a college spoke of it as the power of making ef forts. John Foster held it to be the power of lighting one's own fire.

Newton's was unquestionably a mind of the very highest order, and yet, when asked by what means he had worked out his extraordinary discoveries, he modestly answered, "By always thinking unto them." At another time he thus expressed his method of study: "I keep the subject continually before me, and wait till the first dawnings open slowly by little and little into a full and clear light." It was in Newton's case, as in every other, only by diligent application and perseverance that his great reputation was achieved.

Dalton, the chemist, repudiated the notion of his being "a genius," attributing everything which he had accomplished to simple industry and accumulation. John Hunter said of himself, "My mind is like a beehives; but full as it is of buzz and apparent confusion, it is yet full of order and regularity, and food collected with incessant industry from the choiceset stores of nature. "

We have, indeed, but to glance at the biographies of great men to find that the most distinguished inventors, artists, thinkers, and workers of all kinds, owe their success, in a great measure, to their indefatigable industry and application.
