　　A man came home from work late again, tired and irritated, to find his 5-year old son waiting for him at the door. "Daddy, may I ask you a question?""Yeah, sure, what is it?" replied the man.

　　一個男人又一次很晚才下班回家，疲憊不堪，心心煩躁。他發現自己五歲的兒子正等在門口。“爸爸，我可以問您一個問題嗎?”“是的，你當然可以問了，是什麼問題呢?”男人說。

　　"Daddy, how much money do you make an hour?"

　　“爸爸，您一小時可以掙多少錢?”

　　"That's none of your business. What makes you ask such a thing?" the man said angrily.

　　“那不關你的事。你怎麼會問這種事?”男人生氣地說。

　　"I just want to know. Please tell me, how much do you make an hour?" pleaded the little boy.

　　小男孩懇求著說道：“我只是想知道。請告訴我吧，您一小時可以掙多少錢?”

　　"If you must know, I make $20.00 an hour."

　　“如果你一定要知道的話，現在我就告訴你，每小時二十美元。”

　　"Oh," the little boy replied, head bowed.

　　“哦，”小男孩有些沮喪地回答著並低下了頭。

　　Looking up, he said, "Daddy, may I borrow $10.00 please?"

　　他又抬起了頭，說道：“爸爸，我可以向您借十美元嗎?”

　　The father was furious. "If the only reason you wanted to know how much money I make is just so you can borrow some to buy a silly toy or some other nonsense, then you march yourself straight to your room and go to bed. Think about why you're being so selfish. I work long, hard hours everyday and don't have time for such childish games."

　　這位父親已經忍無可忍了。“如果你問我一小時賺多少錢的原因就是向我借錢去買什麼愚蠢的玩具或其它類似的東西的話，你現在就可以回屋睡覺去了!想想你怎麼會如此自私，我每天辛辛苦苦地工作，哪兒有時間陪你玩這種無聊的小孩子的遊戲。”

　　The little boy quietly went to his room and shut the door. The man sat down and started to get even madder about the little boy's questioning. How dare he ask such questions only to get some money. After an hour or so, the man had calmed down, and started to think he may have been a little hard on his son. Maybe there was something he really needed to buy with that $10.00 and he really didn't ask for money very often. The man went to the door of the little boy's room and opened the door.

　　小男孩默默地回到自己的房間，關上了房門。男人坐了下來，想著男孩問的問題，更是憤怒至極，這個小傢伙，怎麼可以為了借些錢就問出這樣的問題。大約過了一個小時，男人平靜了下來，並開始考慮到自己或許兒子過於粗暴了。也許他真的很需要那十美元來買一些他真正需要的東西，而且他也不經常向自己要錢。於是男人來到小男孩的房間並推開了房門。

　　"Are you asleep son?" he asked.

　　他問道：“你睡了嗎，兒子?”

　　"No daddy, I'm awake," replied the boy.

　　男孩回答說：“不，爸爸，我還沒睡呢。”

　　"I've been thinking, may be I was too hard on you earlier," said the man."It's been a long day and I took my aggravation out on you. Here's that $10.00 you asked for."

　　男人說：“我已經想過了，也許剛才我的話太過刻薄了，工作了整整一天，我把自己的煩惱都發洩在你的身上了。拿著，這是你想要的十美元。”

　　The little boy sat straight up, beaming. "Oh, thank you daddy" he yelled.

　　小男孩坐起身來，高興地叫道：“哦，爸爸，謝謝您。”

　　Then, reaching under his pillow, he pulled out some more crumpled up bills.The man, seeing that the boy already had money, started to get angry again. The little boy slowly counted out his money, then looked up at the man. "Why did you want more money if you already had some? " the father grumbled.

　　然後，小男孩又在枕頭底下拿出了一些已經褶皺了的錢幣。男人看到孩子已經有了錢，便又開始生氣了。小男孩慢慢的數著手裡的錢，然後又看男人。男人不不悅地說道：“即然你已經有錢了，怎麼還向我要呢?”

　　"Because I didn't have enough, but now I do," the little boy replied.

　　“因為我的錢不夠啊，但是現在就夠了。”

　　"Daddy, I have $20.00 now. Can I buy an hour of your time?" After listening the boy;s words,the man's eyes was moist.

　　男孩回答道，“爸爸，現在我有二十美元了。我可以買下您一小時的時間嗎?”聽了男孩的話後，男人眼圈溼潤了。

　　Share $20.00 worth of time with someone you love...just a short reminder to all of us working so hard for our living. However, let us not let time slip through our fingers without having spent some quality time with those who really matter to us.
