雙重所有格的用法總結

　　1. 所謂雙重所有格就是指將 –’s 所有格與of所有格結合起來一起使用。如：

　　a friend of my father’s 我父親的一位朋友

　　a photo of Mr Smith’s 史密斯先生的一張照片

　　that son of Jim’s 吉姆的那個兒子

　　出現雙重所有格的情況，主要是因為在一個名詞前通常只能用一個限定詞，例如在son一詞之前，我們不能同時使用that和Jim’s兩個限定詞，即不能說Jim’s that son，而只可說that son of Jim’s。

　　2. 使用雙重所有格應注意的幾點

　　***1*** 受雙重所有格修飾的名詞通常不能是專有名詞或具有獨一無二性質的名詞，如不說a father of Mary’s，可改說Mary’s father。

　　***2*** 受雙重所有格修飾的名詞通常不能帶定冠詞，但可帶指示代詞this, that, these或those，表示某種感情色彩***如讚賞、厭惡等***，如不說the masterpiece of Tom’s，但可說 this / that masterpiece of Tom’s。

　　***3*** 雙重所有格中帶-’s所有格的名詞通常應是確指的，如不說 a brother of a friend’s，但可說 a friend of my friend’s。

　　***4*** 雙重所有格中帶-’s所有格的名詞通常應是有生命的，如不說a window of the room’s，應改為a window of the room。

　　3. 有時兩種所有格均可使用，但所表達的意義不同。如：

　　This is a photo of my mother’s. 這是我母親收藏的一張照片。***照片上照的不是母親，但該照片為母親所收藏***

　　This is a photo of my mother. 這是我母親照的一張照片。***照片上的人是我母親***

　　He’s a friend of my father’s. 他是我父親的一個朋友。***意指朋友不只一個***

　　He’s a friend of my father. 他是我父親的朋友。***強調兩人之間的友情***

　　物主代詞不可與 a, an, this, that, these, those, some, any, several, no, each, every, such, another, which等詞一起前置，修飾一個名詞，而必須用雙重所有格。

　　公式為：

　　a, an, this, that +名詞+of +名詞性物主代詞。如：

　　each brother of his.

　　a friend of mine.
