The Great Wall of China is considered to be the only man-made project visible from the moon. Although it was once thought to have been built entirely during the Qin Dynasty between 221 and 208 BC it is now believed to have been started earlier.
The 15-foot-high 25-foot-wide 1500-mile-long structure was undoubtedly built to keep out invading enemies. To the common people of the empire who had been forced to build the wall it was not worth it however. The wall and other public works completed by the Qin Dynastyhad caused great losses of wealth and human life in the country. As a resultan angry population rose up in rebellion against the Qin Dynastyand in 207 BC the Han Dynasty began.
Because of its rich history and magnificent appearancethe Great Wall attracts tourists scientists and historians to this day and will continue to do so for generations.
Chinese people are very tolerant of foreigners. Even the strangest behaviors are often accepted for they think that such things are normal in other countries. The first rule in almost all situations you can get into in China is: don't lose your temper! Patience and politeness always go further than cursing and shouting. Here we'll offer some hints for the traveler's daily life.
Among friends the best gift is something typical from your homeland. If you are unexpectedly invited bring for example a bottle of wine. Chinese people prefer sweet wines ***a dessert wine is an outstandingly suitable gift***; a fruit basket would also be good. Avoid certain items however such as flowers which are an expression of mourning as is white wrapping paper. Go with red instead which symbolizes good luck.
