You probably know you should say "please" and "thank you" at restaurants. You probably know the rules of a library. You know you should respect尊敬 and be nice to your classmates. But do you have music manners?
Keep It Down! You have to notice the volume of your music. You should not play your music so loud that everyone around you can hear it. Some people might even get angry. Usually, when you play the music loud on an MP3 player, other people can't hear the words of the song. They just hear a loud sound. Not one wants to listen to this. Very loud music can also be bad for your ears, so even if you are alone when listening to our MP3 player, you shouldn't have it turned up too high.
Take Them Off! You need to know when to turn your MP3 player off and put it away. Libraries and schools don't allow MP3 players. There are other places, like museums, that don't have such rules, but it would be rude to have your MP3 player on. Sometimes, it’s just meaningless to listen to your MP3 player at event. Why would you listen to music at a play, a movie or a sporting event? You would miss what is going on and others would even wonder why you came.
Take One Out! Imagine想像 you are listening to your MP3 player when someone asks you the way. It would not be rude to take out one earphone, tell him the way, and put back the earphone and continue listening. You can also do this when you order food at a fast-food restaurant or when you answer the telephone and it's not for you.
It's Your Choice! There are times when you need to decide what is best. For example, some people can listen to music on their MP3 Players when reading books, while others think it is disturbing打擾. In cases like this, you need to do what seems right for you.
47. The underlined word "volume" in Paragraph Two probably means _____.
A. the type of music B. the amount 數量of a sound
C. the length of a song D. the colour of and MP3 player
48. If we listen to our MP3 player at a play, _____.
A. the theater won't allow it
B. the actors will get angry
C. others won't hear the play well
D. we will miss part of the play
49. We can take one earphone out when we _____.
A. show others the way
B. watch a movie

注意:每個空格只填一個單詞。
Do you know that a student can produce up to 240 pounds of school waste and lots of waste gas during a term? This includes transportation, food, paper, pens, pencils and so on.
Transportation
Many parents like driving their kids to school every day. We all know waste gas from cars is a main cause of air pollution. If parents who live in a neighborhood can take turns to drive their kids to school each day, that’ll be better. Another way of going green is to walk to school if students live near it.
Food
It is surprising that only one primary school could produce up to 19,000 pounds of lunch waste each year. That is only one school. One way to help take care of the environment is to stop using plastic bags. There are all kinds of environmental boxes for students to put their food in.
Paper, pens and pencils
A lot of paper is thrown away by American students. They throw away about 1.6 billion pens every year. They waste many pens and the chemicals of them are bad for the environment. Much more pencils are thrown away than pens. Pencils are made of trees, so if more pencils are thrown away, more trees will be cut down. So students should reuse paper, pens and pencils instead of throwing them away.
Backpacks
As fashion comes and goes, almost every kid needs a new backpack every year. They can save a lot of money and materials材料if they reuse the same schoolbags.
Students and the environment

Hello, everyone. I’m Simon. Back to the life in the last year, I think I have changed a lot and made great progress.進步 in some ways.
First, I used to be careless with my study and was bad at my lessons. But now I listen carefully in class. I am very glad to get so much knowledge.
Second, I spent most of my free time listening to music, watching TV and playing computer games. Luckily, with my teacher’s help, I have realized that it’s meaningless to do so. And now I try to spend my free time reading and doing exercise.
Third, I was an impolite boy before. I often dropped litter everywhere and shouted loudly in the public place. Now, I can behave politely. I always try to go green and I am praised by my teacher and parents.
Fourth, I cared little about others in the past. I always spent my pocket money on things like snacks, CDs and so on. But now I donate my pocket money to Project Hope because I have learnt that children in poor areas can’t afford to go to school. I want to give them a helping hand.
I’m sure I can be better and better in Grade 9.
Thanks for your listening!
