What can you do for the environment?
Tom: Hi, my name's Tom.
Jess: And I'm Jess. We're from the UK.
Tom: The environment is a big issue at the moment. Jess, do you have any advice how to help the environment?
Jess: Yeah, I think it's really important to remember to turn things off, so when you're brushing your teeth, there's not need to keep the tap running all the time, and remember to turn off lights and air-conditioning units when you leave the room. How about you, Tom, any advice?
Tom: Well, that's good to know, I think new technology is helping people to protect the environment more and more. For examples, computers mean that we use less paper, and there are all kinds of things coming off the market that stop us from using quite so many resources.
Jess: Absolutely.
Have you ever had a bad haircut?
Mike: Hey! This is Mike from Singapore.
MJ: Hello! This is MJ from Korea.
Mike: OK, MJ...so we are going to talk about hair. Have you ever had a bad haircut?
MJ: Yes. Actually, I had a really bad hair perm. Which like...I think you've seen me...cause before six months, my hair looked like a poodle. It was like so permed!
Mike: Natural curls? My hair in contrast...let me show you...its straight. I don't have like...there's no curls...nothing whatsoever...straight and I actually like my hair to be a little bit more wavy.
MJ: Oh, I mean my natural hair is like a little curl but like I perm really worse like the barber made a mistake. It was ..it looked like a poodle, everybody teased me as a poodle. How about you like...
Mike: Bad hair cut.
MJ: Oh, really?
MJ:哦,有嗎?
Mike: I think it was in elementary...well I was nine years old, so may be...primary three, and I had a bowl cut, you know, bowl cut? Like... kind of felt like somebody put a bowl on your head...
MJ: Oh...oh...
MJ:哦……哦……
Mike: And they just cut along the bowl, so it was so funny and I remembered the teacher said, did you cut your hair? And I said yes. And he said, how much did you pay for it? 25 cents? It was a joke right? But, so from that day on every one said, dude! that's the guy with the 25 cents hair cut.
MJ: Ohh! Mean teacher.
Mike: Yeah mean... but, yeah, no more bowl cuts from now.
MJ: Yeah.
MJ:好。
Mike: No more.
Have you ever worked for minimum wage?
Mike: Hey, this is Mike from Singapore.
MJ: And this is MJ from Korea.
Mike: OK, MJ, we are gonna talk about wages. Have you ever worked for minimum wage?
MJ: Actually I haven't really worked, so I didn't earn any money. So, I don't know the definition of the minimum wage and also I didn't get the minimum wage.
Mike: So you don't work, you don't get minimum wage.
MJ: How about you?
MJ:你呢?
Mike: Let's see...Well, I think in high school, I actually worked for a cleaning company, and I was assigned to a shopping mall as a toilet cleaner.
MJ: Toilet cleaner?!
MJ:潔廁員?
Mike: Yeah, I worked as a cleaning...or or, let's call it floor supervisor. I prefer that word.
MJ: OK.
MJ:好。
Mike: And, so I'm not sure if that was minimum wage, but I thought I...I thought the pay was pretty good. I got about six dollars or seven dollars per hour. Six dollars per hour. But remember this was way back like...probably a decade ago. So I thought it was a pretty good pay.
MJ: But it could be minimum wage, because it was a hard work. Compare to a hard work and that money, it could be.
Mike: Well, you are right. I could've been paid...
