  英語晨讀哲理美文:A Better Choice

The next time you overhear a friend or coworker chattering excitedly about SOHO, don'tassume that they are talking about New York. In today's business world SOHO refers to "SmallOffice/Home Office," one of today's biggest explosions in the economy. The home-basedbusiness has been born out of necessity. In an era when large corporations always think ofdownsizing, what are your other choices?

Your choices are usually limited: find a lucrative niche in the small business world, stand in lineat Unemployment, or accept a cut in pay and benefits. In this economic climate, where cost-cutting measures are the group of the day, setting up a home office on your own may just bethe ticket to beat the odds. So now, to configure your own small office, home office set-up canbe a breeze.

  How to Start

Let's congratulate on your decision to start your own business. But where do you go fromhere? Paper clips, memo pad, phone and table ?almost but not quite. One of the faultscommitted by home-based business owners otherwise known as a small office home office isthat they fail to consider the possibilities of expansion.

It is fine to start working from the kitchen table but what happens when things start to takeoff and you still do not want to have an office space? where do you place the home office? If youhave the space, I highly suggest a room unto itself. This permits you to close the door andseparate your personal life from business. You are able to leave everything you are working onright where it is instead of shaving to clean-up for dinner or to go to bed. These clean-up stepscan lead to problems down the road. where you anchor the home office is important for yourfuture success. A corner in the living room, bedroom or attic is preferable if you do not have aroom solely for your business. Reasons for the separation include fewer distractions and theability to think and focus more clearly.

And you may have to have one or two clients come to your "office" in the lifetime of yourbusiness. Even though it is your home, you want to present the best professional atmospherepossible, which is very important if you have people working with you. Their productivity isimportant to your bottom line. Invest in the appropriate chairs, tables, lighting and ventilationbefore you invest in the paper clips and the stapler. If you are not comfortable, neither you noryour employees will stay there and finish the job. Bottom line: Your employees don't want tointeract or become a part of your family issues. It is fine to have employees in your home butjust make sure you supply them with the best working atmosphere possible.

So, be a boss of your own and be a happy SOHO. Are You Ready?

  英語晨讀哲理美文:Country Spring

One spring I went a walking tour in the country. It was a glorious spring. Not the sort of springthey give us in these miserable times, under this shameless government -a mixture of eastwind ,blizzard, snow, rain, fog, frost, hail, sleet and thunder-storms, but a sunny, blue-skyed,joyous spring, such as we used to have regularly every year when I was a young man, andthings were different.

It was an exceptionally beautiful spring, even for those golden days; and as I wanderedthrough the waking land, and saw the dawning of the coming green, and watched the blushupon the hawthorn hedge , deepening each day beneath the kisses of the sun, and looked upat the proud old mother trees, dandling their numerous baby buds upon their strong fondarms holding them high for the soft west wind to caress as he passed laughing by, and markedthe primrose yellow creep across the carpet of the woods, and saw the new flush of the fieldand saw the new light on the hills, and heard the new-found gladness of the birds, and heardfrom wood and farm and meadow the timid callings of the little new-born things, wonderingto find themselves alive, and smelt the freshness of the earth, and felt the promise in the air,and felt a strong hand in the wind, my spirit rose within me.

Spring had come to me also, and stirred me with a strange new life, with a strange new hope. I,too, was part of nature, and it was spring! Tender leaves and blossoms were unfolding from myheart. Bright flowers of love and gratitude were opening round its roots. I felt new strength inall my limbs. New blood was running through my veins. Nobler thoughts and nobler longingswere throbbing through my brain. As I walked, nature came and talked beside me, and showedme the world and myself, and the ways of God seemed clearer.

  英語晨讀哲理美文:Rave the Day

It’s four in the morning. Outside, the night is quiet, and most people have been asleep for hours. Inside the club it’s a different story. It could be a club in Los Angeles or London, Tel Aviv or Shanghai, and its walls are vibrating. The thumping techno beat of the music is that loud, and it is

driving and energizing the dancers in the club. Arms flail, heads bounce up and down, and somebody is waving a pair of green neon glow sticks in the air. They’ve been dancing like this for hours, and they don’t plan to quit any time soon. When they finally leave the club, the sun will be up. They’ll be sweaty and exhausted, but also exhilarated, and happy. It’s a rave.

Simply defined, a rave is a party — often an all-night-long party —at which some form of electronic, synthesized music is played. The music is usually played by a DJ ***deejay***, who might specialize in one of the many varieties of electronica — techno, house, trance, ambient, hardcore, jungle, or drum and bass. Or he might play a little of everything, guiding the crowd to find the right feeling, and to bring the music and all the dancers into happy.

  英語晨讀哲理美文:Happiness

Many people think that when they become rich and successful, happiness will naturally follow.Let me tell you that nothing is further from the truth. The world is full of very rich peoplewho are as miserable as if they were living in hell.We have read stories about movie stars who committed suicide or died from drugs.Quite clearly, money is not the only answer to all problems.Wealth obtained through dishonest means does not bring happiness.Lottery winnings do not bring happiness.Gamble winnings do not bring happiness. To my mind, the secret to happiness lies in your successful work,There is no use sayingin your contribution towards others’ happinessand in your wealth you have earned through your own honest effort. If you obtain wealth through luck or dishonest means, you will know that it is ill earned money. If you get your money by taking advantage of others or by hurting others, you will not be happy with it.You will think you are a base person.Long-term happiness is based on honesty, productive work, contribution, and self-esteem.Happiness is not an end; it is a process. It is a continuous process of honest, productive workwhich makes a real contribution to othersand makes you feel you are a useful, worthy person. As Dr. Wayne wrote, “There is no way to happiness. Happiness is the way.”There is no use saying“Some day when I achieve these goals, when I get a car, build a house and own my own business, then I will be really happy.”Life just does not work that way.If you wait for certain things to happenand depend on external circumstances of life to make you happy, you will always feel unfulfilled. There will always be something missing.
