William James, the first American psychologist, echoed this emphasis on happiness: "If we were to ask the question: 'What is human life's chief concern? One of the answers we should receive would be: 'It is happiness.'" Every philosophical and religious system has offered its pathway to happiness for the individual and the group. 　　At one counter an old lady was choosing gloves red ones for her daugher in law， light blue ones for her niece， pink ones for her grand daughter， green ones for her sister and by the time she had found what she wanted， the counter was covered with pairs of all colors and sizes。

　　When the salesgirl had finally written out the bill and was about to turn to the next customer with a tired voice。 "Thank you very much， madam，" the old lady suddenly cried out， "Oh， I almost forgot。。。"——"Anything else， madam?" said the girl， "Yes，" began the old lady， "I＇d like to buy another pair， but I＇ m not quite sure about what exactly I should cloose。 I wonder if you could help me。" "Certainly， madam"， was the girl＇s reply。 The old lady then went on to explain that what she was looking for was a pair of gloves for a girl of her age。 She was not at ail sure what color to choose， and the design was a problem too。

　　The tired girl did her best to help the old lady make up her mind， showing her ail kinds of gloves。

　　At last the chosen pair of gloves were wrapped up and paid for as well， and as the girl was about to turn to the next customer， the old lady handed her a little parcel and said， "These now， dear， these are for you and thank you for being so patient。 I do hope you have a merry Christmas !"

　　這學期我報名參加了英語培訓班，每個星期上課一次，學的是《彩虹與風箏》，還有《迪士尼英語》。

　　我們班上有七個同學，他們是Mini、Ami、ken、Tony、Wendy、Anna，還有我，我的英文名字叫Mary。同學中Mini給我的印象最深刻，他的年齡最小，上課的時候常常要讓他的媽媽坐在旁邊陪著，玩遊戲的時候他會經常跑到教室外面去，惹得我們鬨堂大笑!還有Tony和Wendy，他們兩個上課的時候老是吵架，老師經常讓我坐在他們兩個中間，這樣他們就不吵架了。透過一個學期的相處，大家都成了好朋友!

　　為了讓大家上課認真聽講，同時做好課前的複習、預習，老師在課上要求我們用英語回答問題，答對問題的小朋友就可以加分。下課的時候我們就按照分數的高低來拿禮品。這個學期我經常拿冠軍，校長還請我和其他班的冠軍一起吃飯呢!

　　透過一個學期的英語學習，我學會了用英語問候、自我介紹、講小故事……我發現我挺喜歡上英語課的。下學期我一定要繼續努力，週週拿冠軍，讓他們羨慕去吧!
