　　原文： Tell me not, in mournful numbers, “Life is but an empty dream!” For the soul is dead that slumbers, And things are not what they seem. Life is real!Life is earnest! And the grave is not its goal; “Dust thou art,to dust returnest,” Was not spoken of the soul. Not enjoyment, and not sorrow, Is our destined end or way; But to act, that each tomorrow Find us farther than today.

　　註解： 朗費羅（1807---1882）：生於美國波特蘭，他一生寫了大量的抒情詩和歌謠，如描寫日常生活情景的《四月的一天》（An April Day）, 移植了傳說故事的民歌《保羅裡維爾的夜奔》（Paul Revere’s Ride）等。由於這些作品擁有符合時代要求的主體思想，優美的韻律，通俗的語言，因此很受人們的歡迎。這首《人生禮讚》是他的代表作之一，不僅抒發了他對於人生的感受，還倡導了積極向上的生活態度和奮鬥精神。這裡選取的前面三節。
